As I was reading God’s word today it hit me that, like all of us, the most influential and heavily discussed men in the bible faced enormous challenges. They all had highs and lows. They all had sin fully uncovered in the pages of scripture. From Abraham’s lies about Sarah to Moses’ smiting of the rock to David’s adultery with Bathsheba to Solomon’s idolatry and the list goes on and on. Yet these mighty men were all greatly used to do the will and the works of God Almighty.

We’re all sinners. That’s all God has to work with. The amazing thing is that He loves us still and chooses to use us despite not needing us at all. What a tremendous encouragement to know that we can all have Abraham’s courage shown by picking up and leaving his land at an old age. We can all have Moses’ determination in consistently doing God’s will despite year after year of frustration in the wilderness. We can all have David’s love for God even in the face of numerous near death situations. We can all have Solomon’s wisdom by boldly coming to the throne of grace.

God used all of these men in numerous ways and He wants to use all of us today in different but equally amazing ways. What bigger joy than to be called upon to serve the creator of the entire universe. What an amazing opportunity we’re given. What a gift that is. Father God I pray right now that I always have a servant’s heart. I pray that I never take for granted what an amazing gift it is to serve you. I pray I seek you always with an open heart and an open mind. Praise you Jesus. Amen.
